Snooker: Instructions
How to play
This game is a variant of billiards, designed for two players. The object is to alternately play red and coloured balls in order to win the most points. At the start of the game there are 22 balls on the table, 15 red (one point each), 6 coloured (yellow=2 points, green=3 points, brown= 4 points, blue= 5 points, pink= 6 points and black= 7 points) and one white ball. The break is made from the „D“ (a mark on the table in the shape of a D).If you click next to the white ball, an arrow will appear which you can use to determine the direction of the shot. The magnitude of the shot is shown by changes in the length of the arrow. Above and below the table you will see notices of which ball is being played and whose player’s turn it is.
The game is over once all red and coloured balls have been sunk. The player with the most points wins.
Rules
This game is a variant of billiards, designed for two players. The object is to alternately play red and coloured balls in order to win the most points. At the start of the game there are 22 balls on the table, 15 red (one point each), 6 coloured (yellow=2 points, green=3 points, brown= 4 points, blue= 5 points, pink= 6 points and black= 7 points) and one white ball. The break is made from the „D“ (a mark on the table in the shape of a D). A player must always play a red ball first. If this ball is sunk without a foul, the player has to call a coloured ball s/he would like to aim at and sink. If s/he succeeds in doing so without committing a foul, s/he may continue playing and collecting points. As soon as s/he commits a foul, it is the opponent’s turn.
A player commits a foul when s/he
- sinks the white ball (either the value of the ball played or the value of the ball which was supposed to be played, whichever is higher, but at least 4 penalty points)
- plays the wrong ball (either the value of the ball played or the value of the ball which was supposed to be played, whichever is higher, but at least 4 penalty points)
- plays no ball (value of ball which was supposed to be played, or at least 4 penalty points)
- sinks a ball which does not appear at the edge of the table (also applies to multiple invalid sinking - value of the ball played or the value of the ball which was supposed to be played, or each ball sunk, whichever is higher, but at least 4 penalty points)
If a foul is committed, the opponent receives the points and may continue playing. If the white ball is sunk during a foul, the opponent can place it anywhere in the „D“ and continue playing. If, after an opponent’s foul, a player cannot play any red, or, in the final stage of the game, any coloured balls, s/he can still play or else allow the opponent to continue.
If a coloured ball is sunk, it is put back onto its original position on the table. If this position is blocked, the highest available spot is selected. If this is not possible, the ball is put as close as possible to its original position. Once all the red balls are sunk, the players begin to play the coloured balls according to their numbers from two to seven. They are now no longer returned to the table as at the beginning of the game, but remain in their pockets.
The game is over once all red and coloured balls have been sunk. The player with the most
points wins. If both players have an equal number of points, the black ball is replaced and
played using the white ball from „D“. The next point won or lost decides the game.
Points
A player gets 1 point for each red ball s/he sinks. Coloured balls have different points: yellow=2 points, green=3 points, brown= 4 points, blue= 5 points, pink= 6 points and black= 7 points. If a player commits a foul, the points go to the opponent:- sinking the white ball (either the value of the ball played or the value of the ball which was supposed to be played, whichever is higher, but at least 4 penalty points)
- playing the wrong ball (either the value of the ball played or the value of the ball which was supposed to be played, whichever is higher, but at least 4 penalty points)
- playing no ball (value of ball which was supposed to be played, or at least 4 penalty points)
- sinking a ball which does not appear at the edge of the table (also applies if multiple invalid sinking - value of the ball played or the value of the ball which was supposed to be played, or each ball sunk, whichever is higher, but at least 4 penalty points)
